In The November Criminals, the war is over and Alaric von Trelow returns to a Berlin caught in the turmoil of revolution. Which direction will the nation turn? Will it return to its conservative base, embrace a republican future, or will it fall to red revolution as Russia has recently done? Against this backdrop von Trelow undertakes one last mission for the family of the Kaiser, to find the remains of the Crown Jewels, missing following the storming of the Berlin palace. But the palace is in the hands of a leftist militia, and the only way in may require the help of Lise Freisinger, now a rising star in the Communist party.
In Red Berlin, the leaders of the German Communists, Rosa Luxemburg and Karl Liebknecht, are dead, murdered after the failure of the January rising. Lise Freisinger arrives at Alaric von Trelow's family home with a curious request, help Leo Jogiches, Rosa's former lover and now communist leader, discover who betrayed them to their deaths. Meanwhile Berlin is still wracked by the violent aftermath of the attempted revolution and there is more blood to be shed.
